Description as a Tweet:

Our project is a educational virtual reality app simulating a laboratory. We aim to extend lab experience to those who don't have access to it. Furthermore, the cost of virtual reality headsets is much less than the creation and maintenance of an actual lab.

Inspiration:

We know multiple people who were not able to work on physics or chemistry experiments in school due to their unavailability. Lab work is an essential part of learning which we believe everyone should have the privilege to experience. This was one of our inspirations on building our app.

What it does:

For the demo, we have a pendulum which we can use for physics experiments and apparatus for chemistry. We made this to demonstrate the possibilities of our lab under the time constraints that we had.

How we built it:

We built it using the unreal engine 4 software.

Technologies we used:

  • C/C++/C#
  • AI/Machine Learning
  • Misc

Challenges we ran into:

We learnt how to use the unreal engine from scratch which was very challenging. We struggled to create custom objects in VR and make them react to the user. We had to redesign the lab over and over again to fit our demonstration needs.

Accomplishments we're proud of:

We are proud of being able to create a functional VR application.

What we've learned:

We learnt how to create VR applications.

What's next:

We will complete our VR app and present it as a educational startup.

Built with:

Unreal Engine 4

Prizes we're going for:

  • Best AR/VR Hack
  • Best STEM Hack
